Class Descriptions


The following are descriptions of our regular classes offered each semester. In addition to these, you may be interested in other special offerings found in our current schedule.

Pre-Ballet I-

A ballet class for children ages 2.5 – 4 years old. Focusing on musical awareness, development of locomotor skills, and basic ballet positions of the feet.  There is focus on port de bra (use of arms) and development of spacial awareness in a fun and exciting environment.

Pre Ballet II-

For children 4-5.5 years old. A continuation of Pre-Ballet I adding balances and locomotor skills with a focus of working on weight change and movement on one leg.  Students are able to register for Ballet only or Combination classes.

Foundation-

For children 5.5 & 7 years old.  Basic skills from Pre-Ballet I and Pre Ballet II are carried into Foundation class.   Fundamentals of ballet, tap or jazz are taught emphasizing the continued development of musical awareness and locomotor skills.  Students in Foundation are able to register for ballet only or Combination classes.

Ballet I-VII-

The study of classical ballet training. Based on the Vaganova technique, the student’s syllabus training is essential for the full development of ballet technique. Focus on body placement, musicality, strength and flexibility. Pre-Pointe and Pointe work is introduced to the student based on ability.

Hip-Hop

Students will learn the latest funky dance moves and dance to the latest in hip-hop, rap, and techno music.  Some breakdancing is introduced in this style.  This is a fun class for everyone who wants to become a better dancer! No experience is required to take Hip Hop!

Jazz-

This high energy and edgy dance form combines the styles of ballet with hip hop, theater jazz and street funk. It’s popular with every age group, come join the fun! Students will learn a contemporary style of dance moves. This class is fun and high energy!

Contemporary/Lyrical-

This class is a combination of ballet, jazz and some modern dance elements. Students learn about the art of expressive dance. These classes makes each student stronger technically as well as improving their performing qualities.  Use of  improv is taught in these classes.  This class focuses on current dance styles and trends incorporating floor work, lifts and cutting edge movement. Contemporary dance class makes each student stronger technically as well as improving their performing qualities.

Tap-

Learning the intricacy of rhythm along with executing the clarity of tap sound, we strive to teach to use the feet as a percussive instrument. Rhythm tap is taught at the higher levels.

Musical Theater-

Students will learn musical theater dance, vocal training, and learn acting and musical theater performance techniques. We’ll learn and perform songs and dances from Broadway shows and Hollywood Musicals.  This is a great class for any student who loves being theatrical.
